WRITING
ROLE PLAYS
These role plays are four part writing role plays for two
learners. Learner A looks at his role and writes an
e-mail to learner B. Learner B looks at his role and the
message he has just received from A and replies. Learner
A does the same with B's reply and role number two.
Learner B completes the role play with his second role
and A's reply.
E-mail
exchange sheet.
Use this exchange sheet for the four part writing role
plays. Make sure, if you feel it is necessary for your
students, to get them to write a draft before writing
their message on the sheet.
Role
play one. A visiting colleague.
Role
play two. A meeting for European counterparts.
Three
faxes for the sales department.
A pair
work or small group activity. To complete this activity,
learners will need to be able to recognise and sort out
common writing expressions. Then, using these
expressions, they will write three faxes.
Mr
Smith's disastrous and business
trip.
A pair work or small group activity in which the learners
will write an account of Mr Smith's business trip. To
help them to do this, they will first answer some
questions. The questions are designed to help them to
imagine the problems he had and can be answered in
different ways.
Writing
questionnaire.
A pair work or small group activity. The learners must
write the questionnaire about writing habits before
answering it themselves. By writing the questionnaire
themselves, learners will be made more aware about good
writing habits. You may find it interesting to get one
group to write out the questions for the questionnaire
and another to write out the evaluation remarks. Then
both groups can answer the questionnaire and compare
results.
